Click to expand.I bought mine from Sweetwater at the end of 2018 (early December). At that time this was the only place I saw them and they only had a handful that went quickly.
I bought it about two weeks before the American PJ Player (performer) came out and likely would have went with that. I do like the midnight and wanted the vintage pups. I liked that it had a rosewood fretboard. I noticed today that GC has one used with case for $899 which is more than I paid for my bass and fender hard shell case brand new, It does appear that it is/was a pretty limited edition. I think it is a good deal for MIJ quality, I like the one piece neck. Mine was set up perfectly right out of the box. My only issue is that I am not wild about gold hardware and I have never had a basswood body.
The pups are super hot but I like this. This is my only non US bass and it comes in second in my stable to my Am Deluxe Jazz. I would say that so far I am a fan. Just bought a new guitar from Jimmy Egypt & Sons Musical Instruments.
Delighted with the guitar and the excellent service. This is an excellent shop for any guitarist - whether browsing the guitars in store, buying, guitar repairs, or just looking for advice from the helpful team.
I have had repairs, re-fret and set-ups on my guitars over the years and have always been delighted with the service (hence the 5 star review I gave for the guitar repair shop a while ago). It's great they now sell guitars as well as doing repairs! Highly recommended. Recently put my my 21 year old big baby Taylor in for a setup from start to finish very professional service didn’t matter I’m just an euthosiatic amateur not a professional still treated as a valued customer the work done exceeded my expectations like a new guitar and even cheaper than estimated no hesitation in recommending their work amateur like me or professional myself or professional all treated the same rare thing nowadays great customer service respect wish I had went there first instead of other shops that offered setups etc read more. Most guitar stores I go into these days are so obsessed with making a sale and nothing else and it makes me feel like I'm not wanted in the shop.I visited Jimmy Egypt's yesterday as I realised that I had never been in before, so I had no intention of buying anything, just wanted to look around and see what they had. The staff were welcoming and I never got the sense that I wasn't wanted in the shop at all (as I do with other guitar shops) and one guy in particular (I don't remember his name but he had longish hair and a red jacket I think) who talked about guitars with me was really friendly and let me try an 12 string acoustic for the first time. I didn't feel like I was being pressured to buy it though.
Overall great experience and when it comes the time that I do want to make any guitar related purchases, I'm definitely coming back, even though it's more out the way for me.
